My Personal Weight Loss Journey… | Entertain Kids on a Dime
I’ve been blogging for almost a year now and have always kept my posts light hearted seeing as though everything I promote has to do with entertaining your children. I’ve never written anything too personal on my blog before but with this particular subject it makes sense for me to open up and let people in. This post is not about “Entertaining Kids On A Dime” but rather my journey and personal struggle to becoming healthier and therefore a better parent to my children. When feeling my best, I’m the most effective parent I know how to be, and ultimately a better role model as a result.
MY HISTORY WITH WEIGHT
I didn’t start getting chubby until I was about 10 years old. My father was obese, weighing in at just over 300 pounds, and my mother wasn’t exactly skinny either.
At the age of 15 I started dieting and have yo-yo dieted ever since. The main problem is that I’m absolutely obsessed with food. I’ve always been the type that needs to know what I’m eating for dinner at breakfast.
I’ve tried many diet programs over the years and have listed off my experiences with them below. Oh, and by the way, this is not a sponsored post. No one is paying me to write this. I am aware that many people are happy with some of the programs mentioned below but these are just my own personal experiences with these diet programs.
1) The Starve Myself Diet: The diet that started it all started at the ripe age of 15. Clearly that didn’t last too long and I’m thankful it didn’t!
2) Jenny Craig: When I was single at the age of 25, I decided to try Jenny Craig. On Jenny Craig you have to buy their food from them. I found this very convenient at the time because I could bring the food to work and microwave it. I lost 20 pounds but I was always starved. The portions weren’t big enough to satisfy me. It was difficult to stay on the diet especially if I was going out to restaurants and eventually I just found it to be completely unsustainable. Those tiny portions just didn’t cut it for me.
3) Weight Watchers: I actually think Weight Watchers is a good diet. Both my parents are life-time members of Weight Watchers. My dad lost over 100 pounds and has kept the weight off.
After I had my son I lost 35 pounds on Weight Watchers combined with working out 3 times a week. The main problem for me at the time was that I was nursing and was only allowed 40 points per day so I ended up gaining the weight back. A year and a half later I tried it again. Although this time the problem was I was only allowed 26 points per day and I became frustrated by counting points. I am on my phone and computer all day with my blog and Facebook group. The last thing I want to do is spend any more time than I have to online logging my meals! So that was the end of that.
4) USANA (Similar to Isagenix):
Day one of USANA gave me a migraine. Day two, I still had a headache and day three I was lethargic. By day 4 I was eating pizza lol!
5) JUICE PLUS: In the middle of my diet frustration my neighbour came over and told me she’s on a new weight loss program. She said she wants to sell it to me and that I’d love it so much that I will want to sell it too. I told her there’s no way I’d want to sell any diet products and there is no way in hell I’m paying a dollar to start another shake program. She told me to just try one of her shakes. I agreed. I followed her directions and put a banana, ice, gluten free oats, peanut butter and water and to my surprise it was really good! You can make the texture to be like a Wendys frosty and eat it with a spoon if you put less water. I immediately called her up and put in an order. I started the Juice Plus program 3 weeks ago and I am down 8 pounds. It’s not just the weight loss that is making me happy. I feel like a million dollars. I have so much energy and I feel happy.
I was told I may be lethargic for a few days on the program but that never happened to me! I’ve felt awesome from the beginning.
