Brampton, ON
Maple Leaf Music Together is remembering and celebrating the lives of Daniel, Harrison and Milagros Neville-Lake with an interactive and joyous family concert that the whole community is invited to attend. Our concert will be led by international musician and recording artist, Gerry Dignan, featured as “Uncle Gerry” on all 9 CD’s of the Music Together Collections. Each of the Neville-Lake children loved music and making music in our Music Together classes with their parents Edward and Jennifer — they loved listening to and singing along with Uncle Gerry on the CD’s together as a family. The children were great fun and are deeply and dearly missed — this concert is an expression of our love for them and their family. We have renamed our scholarship fund in honour of our sweet and feisty friend, Milagros(Milly) Neville-Lake, who participated in our music classes since she was an infant, and was enrolled in our fall classes at the time of her tragic and untimely death. “Milly’s Miracle Fund” will be used to provide tuition scholarships to our classes for families in financial need, and those with children with special needs like her older brother Harrison — who originally came to our classes as part of his therapy as a toddler. All proceeds from the Memorial Concert will go towards Milly’s Miracle Fund. Cost to attend is $10/adult $5/children under 18.

Hi Everyone,
I just came back from a last minute trip to Jamaica. We chose Jamaica because the weather was sunny all week. I stayed at the Ibero Star Rose Hall Suites in Montego Bay. The resort is an all-inclusive and the kid’s had a fantastic time. I barely saw them all day. The staff were so friendly and were amazing with Brooklyn and Bentley. My kids didn’t want to hang out with me. I had so much time on my hands that I bought a book and actually got to read on this trip. I haven’t done that since before I had kids! Now I am home and back to real life. Sigh …
The calendar is still quiet but it will pick up as we get into February!
Have a great weekend!

ABOUT THE BOOK
Mommy, Am I Pretty? by Margot L. Denommé, illustrated by Madison & Brooke Denommé-Warren
Once there was a girl named Molly who wondered what it meant to be pretty.
So she asked her mother.
August 2015 – Toronto, Canada
Young girls today are inundated daily with images that create unrealistic and often deceptive expectations of size and beauty. How does growing up in a culture obsessed with outward beauty effect this particularly impressionable and vulnerable demographic? This question amid concerns about raising her own two young daughters sparked the inspiration for her illustrated book, Mommy, Am I Pretty?
While walking home from school young Molly asks her mother what it means to be pretty. Molly’s mother guides her through her day at school, at home and in her community to uncover moments of kindness, generosity and confidence. Molly discovers that small gestures of compassion and friendship give us a loving heart and how trying our best at our favourite activity or sport makes us feel strong and beautiful on the inside. With this discovery she decides that being pretty on the inside is what matters most. Reading Mommy, Am I Pretty? with a child initiates a conversation on how being your best self, giving back to others, and being a thoughtful person is the true image of beauty and one that can’t be created through photo-shop.
The author’s own daughters, Madison and Brooke Denommé-Warren, created the whimsical and captivating illustrations that bring Molly’s day to life. Their hand-drawn and painted illustrations are the perfect complement to the simple verse, offering images of true beauty in the people and world around us from a young girl’s perspective.
MARGOT DENOMMÉ practices criminal law in Toronto, Ontario where she lives with her husband and two daughters. As a mother she is keenly aware of the negative effects media has on growing girls, and wrote this book to encourage dialogue between parents, grandparents, caregivers, teachers, and young girls with a view to empower them that true beauty lies within each and every one of them. As a criminal lawyer, Margot has seen the devastating effects of low self-esteem in youth and the ever-increasing incidents of bullying. In 2014, Margot created The Celebrate You Tour to take her message to both schools and community groups to discuss the importance of developing ourselves from the inside-out by being confident, kind, strong, inclusive and unique.
The messages in Mommy, Am I Pretty have resonated with prominent Canadian groups and organizers including, The Pediatric Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery division of the Hospital for Sick Children and The Dove Self-Esteem Fund Real Beauty Campaign. Margot has also become involved with a number of organizations in the United States including Girl’s on the Run and PACE Center for Girls.

I just signed up my two children for summer camp at Richmond Hill Country Club Day Camp. With the early bird registration deadline coming up, I thought I would share with you what a wonderful place it has been for my family.
My daughter Brooklyn is entering her 5th summer as at RHCC Day Camp in the Cheetah unit and my son Bentley is entering his 2nd summer in the Coyote. Brooklyn has been a camper there since she was 2.5 years old and in diapers, and hasn’t looked back since.
I myself know this Camp very well. I worked there as a counsellor when I was sixteen years old and both my younger siblings were campers there as well.
You might ask: “What do I love about this place?”
The Camp sits behind the Country Club on acres of land and is filled with trees and lush greenery. The campers swim twice daily – an instructional swim in the outdoor pool in the morning and a recreational swim in the afternoon in the indoor pool, when the sun is at its strongest. I love the indoor pool because the kids still get to swim if it is raining outside. I also love the fact that if it is raining or there is a heat wave outside, the kids can still enjoy their day comfortably with some indoor, air conditioned, locations.
The counsellors are enthusiastic and truly care about the kids. Both of my kids counsellors from last summer, still babysit my kids.
The camp encourages socialization and group integration. Both my kids made a lot of new friends at RHCC Day Camp, many who they remain in contact with over the winter months.
How does a typical day of Camp work?
You have an option to put your child in bussing or can drop them off yourself. The kids meet one of their counsellors at the top of the hill bring them down to their unit area. The youngest children in the Cubs, Bears and Grizzlies units are dropped off in a gated park at the top of the hill where they have a special drop off activity to participate in, such as music or dance,to help the campers start their day off with lots of fun.
To begin the camp day, all of the campers gather in the main field in front of the stage, where they participate in an energizer, practice the camp dance, celebrate birthdays and have daily announcements. For the rest of the day, the kids have a fun filled schedule of structured activities. They have lunch with their unit and sit on picnic benches in the large lunch tent. You have a choice of ordering your children a hot lunch (for an extra charge) or you can pack your own. Every Friday, all campers are given a hot dog lunch at no extra cost.
The indoor swim is a “free swim” where the kids can play and enjoy the pool with safe supervision. The outdoor swim is an “instructional swim” and the kids are put into groups based on their swim level and work toward their badges. Both swimming activities have life guards and staff monitoring at all times. Brooklyn and Bentley got their swim badges this summer which was a bonus.
When the day ends, the kids are escorted by their counsellors up the hill to the buses or to their parents.
So what are these kids doing each day at Camp?
